Eielson Air Force Base is located approximately 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska and is just southeast of Moose Creek. The base was originally established in 1943 as Mile 26 Satellite Field and was renamed on 13 January 1948. Since 1989, the base has been designated as a Superfund site.

Moose Creek

Moose Creek is a beautiful natural area that is located near the base. The base is the home to the 1st and 4th Brigades of the 25th Infantry Division. The base has been home to ground combat units from the lower 48 states as well as from the Canadian Armed Forces. During the 1950s and 60s, the base was upgraded to be one of the most technologically advanced bases in the world. In 1989, the base was designated as a Superfund site, meaning that deep cleaning efforts are underway to remove any remaining contaminants. Despite this, it is still open and operating today.

The community has a low population density, with about five people per square mile. Most residents are 25 years of age or younger. It is also home to many young professionals. Moose Creek is less crowded than other communities, and it offers a quiet environment for military personnel. It’s a great place to spend a day and enjoy the sights.

Moose Creek offers outdoor recreation in an area that is known as the Alaska Range. There are several restaurants in the area that are recommended by TripAdvisor. One of these restaurants serves Cuban food and Spanish wine, while another offers local seafood and excellent service.

Moose Creek Golf Course

Moose Creek Golf Course is a challenging 18-hole course that boasts breathtaking views of the Chugach Mountain Range. Its friendly staff and excellent conditions will keep you coming back. A visit to this course is a great way to enjoy the area.

The course is part of the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and is the world’s northernmost 36-hole golf facility. The Creek course is 7,324 yards long and features numerous scenic holes. The sixth and eleventh holes play through reclaimed gravel pits. The course is open to the public, and visitors are charged $46 for 18 holes.

Moose Creek Bowling Center

Moose Creek Bowling Center is located on the base and is one of the best places to visit in the Eielson area. The alley features bowling pins, bumpers, and a restaurant. The center is open for all ages and has a family-friendly atmosphere. You can also play a game of billiards at the center.

The area around the base has been affected by the site’s petroleum contamination. During its operations, the base produced a variety of hazardous and nonhazardous wastes. In 1989, the Environmental Protection Agency listed Eielson Air Force Base on its National Priorities List of federal Superfund sites. Since then, the base has taken measures to address the contamination. In 1994, it identified 66 potential sources of contamination. It has also instituted institutional controls to reduce the risk of future contamination.

Moose Creek Restaurant

Moose Creek Restaurant is one of many places on Eielson Air Force Base to experience authentic Alaskan cuisine. It is also the perfect place to enjoy the great views of the surrounding area. The base is home to the 354th Fighter Wing, which is tasked with training professional pilots to fly combat aircraft for the United States Air Force. The base contains numerous tenant units as well as the 354th Operations Group.

This family-run restaurant offers some of the best food on the base. It is operated by retired Air Force Airmen John Catiller and serves American fare to servicemen and civilians alike. The menu includes burgers, steaks, and fried chicken. The cafe also has a Disney corner, as well as a VCR with hundreds of movies.

Crawford Elementary School is another place to visit in EIELSON Air Force base. The school houses 300 third through sixth grade students. Construction on the 65,000-square-foot building began in 1996 and was completed in August 1997. The building was awarded the 1999 USAF Award for Design Excellence.

The Tanana River

If you want to paddle the Tanana River, you’ve come to the right place. This stretch of water is about a mile long and has two take-outs at either the beginning of the trip or the end of it. One take-out is near the slough on the Delta-Clearwater River, while the other is located just upstream. Both of these take-outs have mileposts.

The Tanana River is a tributary of the Yukon River and contributes nearly 30 percent of its total water flow. The river is a sediment-laden, mineral-rich stream that reaches a peak in late July. It was first explored by Russian traders in the mid-19th century and is a prime gold-producing area. It is also an important farming region that produces truck crops, small grains, and potatoes.

The Yukon-Tanana Uplands are a region of small mountains in the eastern-central part of the state. The Tanana River is located on the north and east sides of the state, while Canada is to the south. The area is about 30,000 square miles, which is more than the combined areas of New Hampshire and New Jersey.

The 354th Fighter Wing

When you visit the 354th Fighter Wing, you’ll get a rare and unique view of military aircraft in action. The 354th TFW is an Army and Marine unit that has been deployed in numerous countries around the world. They serve as part of the Rapid Deployment Force, which consists of several armed forces and is capable of deploying anywhere in the world in 24 hours. The wing’s squadrons are often deployed in order to support the U.S. Air Force’s Tactical Air Weapons Center by providing close air support during training exercises.

In addition to supplying air force aircraft, the 354th TFS also supports the 168th Air Refueling Wing’s KC-135 aircraft. Their mission is to ensure that the wing has the capability to mobilize and provide operational sustainment to its assigned aircraft. Another unit in the 354th TFW, the 354th Contracting Squadron, is responsible for performing market research and contract administration for all of the installation’s acquisition requirements.

The 354th TFW was activated in March 1957, and was previously known as the 31st Fighter-Bomber Wing. The 354th TFW was assigned the colors red, blue and green. It also has a green tail. The squadron also used the names Panther and Falcon. This squadron was the first unit of the 354th to deploy to the Persian Gulf in support of Desert Shield.
